Enjoy Life Foods Chewy Bars!

Enjoy Life Foods has done it again.  Remember when I got to try out their Decadent Bars??  Well, they have raised the bar.  I can honestly say, they are one of my very favorite companies to work with…and it’s not just because they send me ALL KINDS OF GOODIES. That’s just a bonus 😉

chewybarsThe world of gluten-free has grown so much in the past few years.  Thanks to Enjoy Life Foods, there are now incredible dessert-like snack bars in any flavor you can imagine that are safe for just about anyone!  These bars are soy free, nut free, gluten-free, and dairy free, yet packed full of essential vitamins and minerals.

fourflavorsAt just 1 oz. in weight, these little guys are the ideal pick-me-up snack for morning, afternoon, and evening.  I stash them in my purse ALL the time.  each bar has 110-120 calories, 2.5-4 grams of fat (0g saturated, 0g trans), and are sweet enough to give your sweet tooth its fix… Just wait until you hear these flavors!

Caramel Apple
caramelappleINGREDIENTS: Tapioca Syrup, Vegetable Glycerin, Evaporated Cane Juice, Date Paste, Expeller Pressed Vegetable Oil (Safflower Oil and/or Sunflower Oil), Rice Starch, White Rice Flour, Rice Crisps (Rice Flour, Rice Bran, Raisin Juice Concentrate, Honey, Salt), Brown Pure Cane Sugar, Golden Flaxseed, Sunflower Seed Butter (Roasted Sunflower Kernel, Evaporated Cane Juice, Salt), Dried Apple, Pre-Cooked Quinoa Flakes, Light Buckwheat Flour, Puffed Amaranth, Millet Flour, Baking Soda, Cinnamon, Natural Flavors, Salt, Xanthan Gum, Vanilla, Malic Acid (Natural Flavor Enhancer), Vitamins and Minerals (Vitamin B3, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B1, Folic Acid, Calcium).

This one was Jarid’s favorite.  He is a SUCKER for caramel covered apples.  The minute I opened the box, I knew I’d only get to eat one of them 😉  I really enjoyed the texture of these newly formulated bars!  The puffed amaranth gave a nice, minimal crunch.  You can easily see the texture of the bar in the picture!

MY favorite was the Cocoa Loco

cocoaINGREDIENTS: Tapioca Syrup, Evaporated Cane Juice, Vegetable Glycerin, Chocolate Chips (Cane Sugar, Chocolate Liquor [Non-Alcoholic], Non-Dairy Cocoa Butter), White Rice Flour, Natural Process Cocoa Powder, Date Paste, Expeller Pressed Vegetable Oil (Safflower Oil and/or Sunflower Oil), Brown Pure Cane Sugar, Sunflower Seed Butter (Roasted Sunflower Kernel, Evaporated Cane Juice, Salt), Light Buckwheat Flour, Golden Flaxseed, Rice Starch, Millet Flour, Natural Chocolate Flavor, Baking Soda, Vanilla, Xanthan Gum, Gum Arabic, Salt, Vitamins and Minerals (Vitamin B3, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B1, Folic Acid, Calcium).

Admittedly, the ingredients lists are a bit long for my taste… if I had it my way, all bars would have 5 or less ingredients.  If you look through it carefully, though, all of the ingredients are recognizable, which I appreciate.  I don’t like to put food into my body when I don’t even understand what it is.  The Cocoa Loco was chocolatey, but not over-the-top in a “death-by-chocolate” kind of way… you know what I mean… I didn’t need a glass of milk just to choke it down.  Again, very sweet tasting.

The Mixed Berry was Jarid’s 2nd favorite.

berryINGREDIENTS: Tapioca Syrup, Vegetable Glycerin, Rice Crisps (Rice Flour, Rice Bran, Raisin Juice Concentrate, Honey, Salt), Brown Pure Cane Sugar, Evaporated Cane Juice, Expeller Pressed Vegetable Oil (Safflower Oil and/or Sunflower Oil), Date Paste, Rice Starch, White Rice Flour, Dried Cranberries* (Cranberries, Cane Sugar, Sunflower Oil), Golden Flaxseed, Sunflower Seed Butter (Roasted Sunflower Kernel, Evaporated Cane Juice, Salt), Pre-Cooked Quinoa Flakes, Light Buckwheat Flour, Puffed Amaranth, Millet Flour, Freeze Dried Strawberries, Natural Flavor, Baking Soda, Xanthan Gum, Salt, Vanilla, Malic Acid (Natural Flavor Enhancer), Vitamins and Minerals (Vitamin B3, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B1, Folic Acid, Calcium). * Sulfite free

He was a little weirded out by the texture and kept asking me what those little “ball things” were.  That’s where we differ… I liked thatHe didn’t.  He did enjoy the flavor, though.  And the fact that he could see the dried berries within the bar.  He said they reminded him of cranberry cookies?!  I didn’t have the heart to tell him, after reading the label that they were actually STRAWBERRIES… not cranberries.  Haha.

Lastly, we have the Sunbutter Crunch.

sunbutterINGREDIENTS: Sunflower Seed Butter (Roasted Sunflower Kernel, Evaporated Cane Juice, Salt), Vegetable Glycerin, Tapioca Syrup, Rice Crisps (Rice Flour, Rice Bran, Raisin Juice Concentrate, Honey, Salt), White Rice Flour, Date Paste, Pre-Cooked Quinoa Flakes, Rice Starch, Evaporated Cane Juice, Puffed Amaranth, Light Buckwheat Flour, Brown Pure Cane Sugar, Millet Flour, Golden Flaxseed, Gum Arabic, Xanthan Gum, Salt, Vanilla, Baking Soda, Vitamins and Minerals (Vitamin B3, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B1, Folic Acid, Calcium).

This bar is the one I was most excited for, but enjoyed the least.  I was really hoping for that salty/sweet combination that I LOVE about Sunbutter, but in this bar, it wasn’t an obvious taste.  The salty was very muted by the sweet… almost undetectable.  Don’t get me wrong, it was good!  But I definitely added my own salted nut butter to the top for a little flavor combination.  Add a touch more sea salt to this bar, and it would be out of this world delicious!

Thank you so much to Jamie and Enjoy Life Foods for hooking me up!  These bars are yummy and I will definitely be buying certain flavors again!
