A Quarter of a Century.

What is it that I’ve learned in 25 years? I know for a fact that I won’t be able to encompass everything into this short post, but here are a few of the important ones.

#1- The only person who can fulfill all of your needs and will never fail you, hands down, is Jesus.  You can’t depend on anyone else to do that.  They weren’t made for that…yes, even family…although they do come pretty close! 😉

#2- Not everyone is ready for college straight out of high school.  I wasn’t.  I have an entirely different perspective on learning in general, now that I’m older.  It is such a gift!

#3- The greatest gift you can give someone is your love, and vice versa.  In addition, we love because Christ first loved us.  I don’t think it’s possible to experience the deepest kind of love without Him as our Savior.  He IS love.

#4- Married life is what you make it.  The honeymoon lasts as long as you’re willing to put the effort in.

#5- Until you love yourself (Psalms 139:14), don’t even think about being in a relationship.  It won’t work.

#6- God blesses us so that we may bless others.  When God learns that He can trust you with blessings and you’ll use them to further His kingdom, He gives you more.  Sometimes, it’s more than you can ever imagine.  It will even leave you in disbelief at times.

#7- Joy & happiness are not the same thing.  Happiness is temporary, joy is eternal, and can only be attained by claiming Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior.   Not just by words, but in your heart.  Offering up your life for Him to use in any way He sees fit… sometimes not the most convenient for us.

Now that I’ve got that out of the way, let’s get on to the birthday festivities recap!

Truth be told, I didn’t plan on doing anything too crazy yesterday…Momma did ask me to go to lunch, so I was excited to spend some time with her, but other than that, there wasn’t too much on the agenda besides a planned birthday dinner with the hubs.

Everything started first thing in the morning.  As soon as I woke up, I had this large blue bag sitting on our bed with a card from Jarid to me.

bagI also have a hazy memory of him singing “happy birthday” to me around 1:30 in the morning… he woke up to use the bathroom, and still half asleep, as he came back to bed, he sang to me. Haha.

loveInside the bag, I found some framed wall art.  I knew the jumbled words looked familiar, so as soon as he told me that they were his vows to me, from our wedding day, all jumbled and shaped into the word, “love”, it made a lot of sense 🙂  He really is incredibly thoughtful!

monogramThe next thing I pulled out of the gift bag was this adorable black, white & grey monogrammed half-zip with my new initials embroidered onto it!  So excited to wear this! **Side note: my Dad said not to look at it in the mirror, since backwards it reads: “A$$”.  Yeah.

After gifts, I ate breakfast and headed downstairs to workout, as per usual.  Before long, Jarid was kissing me goodbye and he was off to work.  By 8:15am I was in the shower and getting ready myself.

Around 12pm, Momma and I had been corresponding through text message as I guided her to my building at work.  I was excited just to see her, but then when my sister got out of the car to greet me, too, the surprise really threw me for a loop!  I didn’t expect to get to see her yesterday at all!  My youngest sister was supposed to be having a softball workout, which my Dad was taking her to, so I wouldn’t be able to see them until later that day… or so I thought.

familyTurns out, they ALL tricked me!  Morgy & Dad showed up to meet Myranda, Mom & I for lunch.  At that point, they’d already made it an amazing day.  ❤

I’ll bet you can’t guess what I picked out for my meal!

mealI know, I know… I’m super predictable!  If it’s not broke, don’t try to fix it, right? 🙂

Brown rice salmon roll, seaweed salad, and some veggies from the hot bar with a little chunk of chicken from the chicken & broccoli.

girlsI’m pretty sure all the girls got Chinese food from the hot bar, too!  Ahhh these girls… who would’ve thought we’d grow up to be great friends after teasing and pulling each others’ hair all of those years? 😉 I wouldn’t not trade them for the world.

After lunch, they gave me a few gifts!  I immediately put on my new starfish earrings and bracelet.  Those stinkers saw me looking at these while we were at the beach and snagged them in OBX!  I.am.in.love.  I hated saying goodbye, but Momma dropped me back off at the office for a few more hours…

Soon after I got back into the office, Jarid surprised me with a gigantic bouquet of flowers, IN person.  I was more excited to see him than I was that he brought me something, but they were absolutely stunning.  The day was literally surprise after surprise!  I felt entirely too spoiled.

soccerAround 3:30, I was off again to watch Morgs play soccer!  She had a scrimmage and I figured it would be a nice way to be able to spend some extra time with Mom & Dad.  Plus, I am not sure how many games I’ll be able to make it to, so I’m glad I was able to see this one!

I left around 5pm, since Jarid has special, surprise reservations for us and I wanted to make sure I got home in time to clean up a bit for our date!

girl…Can you guess where? 🙂  The picture above should be a good hint!

date….maybe now?

…that’s right!  The place where I had the best meal EVER.  I almost threw up when I looked at the menu and saw the prices again…haha.

table… would you look at that adorable, romantic, rounded booth for two?  Candle-lit and all 🙂

Immediately, our waitress greeted us, delivering the Ipad with all of the wine/food pairings and specials for the evening displayed, as per usual.

We didn’t make any wine purchases, but as I’ve said before, the display in itself was neat.  They comprised most of the one entire wall in the restaurant.

I knew exactly what I wanted, so I didn’t even waste time looking over the menu 🙂  Before we knew it, our waitress was back with a bread basket and complimentary tasters.

saladAlong with our entrees, Jarid and I each ordered a house salad which came with white wine balsamic vinaigrette on the side.  I didn’t use much of the dressing, but it was sweet & tangy.  A little bit went a long way.  The salads were pretty tiny for the $8 price tag, but they were well presented.

On to the main event… His & Hers.

For him, NY strip with fries and sauteed spinach.  For her, filet mignon with grilled asparagus & sea salt.

Just as amazing as I remembered!  Melted in my mouth.

panacottaJarid had mentioned to our server that we were there for my birthday dinner, and she brought out these two little pana cotta spoons with raspberry drizzle on top.  I was stuffed, but Jarid took care of mine for me 😉

My Momma said that she and the family might stop by after dinner because they had one last thing for me?  Turns out, we got home and they were already there waiting for me, with a candle in a Vitatop ready to sing “Happy Birthday” and this baby set up on our deck!

chair… Yes, my friends, that is, indeed, the cutest reclining lounger deck chair you’ll ever see.  And a sweet glass side table to accompany it!  I cannot wait to use it! Hopefully the sun isn’t gone for Summer yet, and I can still use this baby to get a nice tan!   I cannot believe they did this.  I am thrilled beyond belief.  I was thrilled that they would come down at 8pm, alone, to be honest!

cardsI plan to make a little card book of all the ones I’ve received.  These three will be in the front, though 😉  We ate ice cream together, laughed, and Daddy told me his infamous “monkey story” that I used to insist he recite before bed every night.  It was a necessity before I could fall asleep, and my favorite of the many he had made up to tell me as a kid.  I laughed until I cried and at the end of the story, a real cry came as my Daddy squeezed me tight.  What an amazing end to my 24th year.  Here’s to 25 more!

PS, If you’re reading this and you’ve commented on my Facebook page, thank you so much for your birthday well wishes.  It’s so sweet to see that someone took the time out of their day to wish me a “Happy Birthday“!
