I’ve Got A Drinking Problem…

…thanks to Zu•Kay Live Foods KVASS

Zu•Kay Live Foods have a special place in my heart for more than one reason.  Let’s start at the top:

#1 – Scott & Cathy Grzybek, the founders of Zu•Kay.  I mean, look at them?  This picture screams cuteness.

family #2- They’re NORMAL people.  They didn’t have some get rich quick scheme up their sleeve and somehow stumbled upon this brilliant idea to create probiotic cultured veggie drinks (we’ll get to that part later).  They’ve worked normal jobs and been hard workers their entire lives.

#3- They took an interest health and nutrition after coming to the realization that their food sources weren’t working in their best interest (like many of you, and of course, myself).

#4- They’ve got a good-hearted, honest mission:

#5- They sure know their veggie•biotics!

veggiebiotics#6 – They’ve got a blog!

#7- They sent me these amazing drinks to try out!

Raw Kvass beverages from Zu•Kay Live Foods come in 7 different varieties:

Beet, Beet Ginger, Carrot Ginger, Veggie Medley, Super Root, Super Gold, and Super Green

Each drink has 15-35 calories and is chock full of whole, nutritious foods.

Beet – the original detox drink!

Ingredients: Water, Organic Beets, Celtic Sea Salt, Hand-Batched Live Active Culture, Organic Raw Green Stevia

From the website: “Beet Kvass has long been revered in Eastern Europe for its purported blood and liver-cleansing properties. There’s even a lot of research around the humble beet’s large nitrate content, which have been found to help your body utilize oxygen better (and therefore enable you to workout better).”

Veggie Medley – a bottle of summer veggie goodness!

kvass3Ingredients: Water, Organic Tomatoes, Organic Cucumbers, Organic Carrots, Organic Cabbage, Organic Celery, Organic Kale, Organic Parsley, Organic Beets, Celtic Sea Salt, Hand-Batched Live Active Culture, Organic Raw Green Stevia

The Veggie Medley was one of TWO favorites.  The sweetness of the tomato and carrot really shined through in this one.  It was super refreshing, too!  I’m giving the credit for that feature to the cucumber and celery.  I felt completely hydrated after drinking this one.

My other favorite was the Super Green – a green treasure trove of phytonutrients!

green2Ingredients: Water, Organic Cabbage, Organic Fennel, Organic Kale, Organic Spinach, Organic Chard, Organic Lemon, Organic Ginger, Organic Watercress, Organic Wheatgrass, Organic Spirulina, Celtic Sea Salt, Hand-Batched Live Active Culture, Organic Raw Green Stevia

The labels on each of my favorites  read “tastefully tart”, which I was nervous about, but they were honestly fantastic!  The amount of tartness was perfectly balanced with the Stevia.

Just the right amount of sweet, too.  In the Super Green, I think the lemon was a hidden gem as well.  The undertones were detectable but not overpowering.

Next, we’ve got the Super Root, Super Gold, and Beet Ginger

The Super Gold wasn’t my favorite.  It was a little bit too spicy for my taste (I’m guessing it had a lot to do with the hot yellow peppers and ginger).  I literally couldn’t drink too much of it at once.

Ingredients: Water, Organic Carrot, Organic Ginger, Organic Winter Squash, Hot Yellow Peppers, Turmeric, Celtic Sea Salt, Hand-Batched Live Active Culture, Organic Raw Green Stevia, Organic Cayenne Pepper

The Super Root also wasn’t a favorite, although, I’m sure some of you would’ve liked it more than I did.  It did have a stellar list of herbal roots, which are meant to detox and cleanse the body.

Ingredients: Water, Organic Beet, Organic Carrot, Organic Sarsaparilla, Turmeric, Organic Ginger, Organic Burdock Root, Organic Kudzu Root, Organic Astragalus Root, Organic Codonopsis Root, Organic Shatavari Root, Wild Harvested Suma Root, Celtic Sea Salt, Hand-Batched Live Active Culture, Organic Raw Green Stevia

Lastly, the Beet Ginger (I’m gathering, after doing this review, that I’m not a huge fan of ginger) was another least favorite, although I’d probably rank it above the Super Root and the Super Gold.

Ingredients: Water, Organic Beets, Organic Ginger, Celtic Sea Salt, Hand-Batched Live Active Culture, Organic Raw Green Stevia

If I were to purchase Zukay Kvass in the future, I’d definitely shoot for the Super Green and the Veggie Medley!  Thanks so much to Cathy, Scott and their family for sharing such a different, unique product with me!  I’m going to go drink my veggies now 🙂
