Welcome to 2013.

My first post in the New Year!  How exciting 🙂

Every year, Momma & Poppa Cox host a New Year’s Eve party and this year was no exception.

Jarid & I both had to work New Year’s Eve (I got out early at 1:30pm), but luckily, were able to sneak in a nap before heading to the party – otherwise, I never would’ve made it until midnight!

I swear, the kids’ anticipation heightens with each hour that passes just waiting for the second they’re allowed to go balloon-popping-crazy.  Literally, I think the amount of children on my Mom’s side of the family may outnumber the adults.

Here’s Jarid with our little flower girl.  She is so attached to him!  The entire time we were there, she was by his side.  He even framed a picture of the two of them at the wedding and gave it to her.  I couldn’t ask for a more amazing husband who is so good to my family and I.

Okay, enough of the sappy stuff.

We played games and watched Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve on TV.  The biggest letdown for me was Taylor Swift’s performance.  Typically, I’m a fan, but that song “Red” didn’t do her voice any justice.

I discovered that turkey bacon wrapped jalapenos with fat free cream cheese are probably one of my favorite appetizers.  I need to make more next time!

They were super easy, super healthy, and super delicious.  All you have to do is spray a non-stick cookie sheet with some non-stick cooking spray, cut the jalapenos in halves, stuff them with fat-free cream cheese (you can usually fit a little less than a tablespoon in one – depending on the size of the pepper), and wrap the whole thing with one slice of turkey bacon –I used this kind.  Bake in the oven at 350º for about 20-25 minutes and you’re done!  They’re even husband approved 😉

Before we knew it, we were counting down from ten as we watched the ball drop in Time Square.  We kissed, toasted, and celebrated the beginning of 2013 all together as a family.

My Uncle prepared his traditional fireworks display, and we all watched in awe.  Some of us from the deck, and some of us in the warmth of the house by the bay window.

I say I never make New Year’s Resolutions, because ordinarily, I don’t.  I believe that if we see something that needs to be changed, we should do it then and there… not wait around for a time frame that we can’t even ensure will come around before Jesus comes back.  As I find myself in the here and now, I’d like to set a goal for myself, which just happens to be in the beginning of 2013.  Granted, it’s been a goal my entire life, but I’d really like to start focusing more to be on fire for Jesus…really, truly, and whole-heartedly pursuing my relationship with Him.    Lastly, Jarid and I are holding one another accountable for language.  I figure, even though it isn’t often, the curse words that sometimes slip from our lips are pretty unnecessary…not to mention bad examples.  Here we go, 2013.  Ready or not 🙂
