A short time ago, Del Real Foods sent me a lovely box chock full of foods that any foodie would swoon for. Each and every product is gluten-free, and some are even dairy-free!
Included in my goodie package, was Cheese & Bell Pepper Pupusas, Shredded Chicken, Pollo Asado, Chipotle Chicken Tinga, Frijoles Negros, Chicken & Red Sauce Tamales, and a special little container of their amazing salsa.
To top things off, Del Real Foods offered to give away a Party in a Box to one of you lucky readers as part of my review!
Before I get started, let’s talk a little bit about this generous company… they’re family owned and operated out of Mira Loma, California. They use the absolute freshest ingredients in their products, most of which are locally sourced (LOVE that). The authenticity of the Mexican dishes they offer is totally detectable, and the ingredients lists are simple – just the way I like them. They’re even prepared in an industrial, home kitchen!
Made with ZERO trans fats, Del Real Foods uses an open-kettle method to create each of these flavorful dishes. Most of the products need to stay refrigerated because they aren’t stuffed full of preservatives, thank goodness.
Another thing that has become increasingly important to me (having taken my Environmental Science class this Summer semester), is that this company has adopted sustainable initiatives including waste water management and recycling to help the environment. Del Real Foods has also sponsored local sporting events and made donations to local communities to contribute to their improvement! How cool is that?!
How about we talk about the taste for a second: My FAVORITE product of theirs, is the Cheese & Bell Pepper Pupusas.
Ingredients: Masa: Water, Corn (Corn treated with lime water), Canola oil, Salt, Cultured dextrose. Filling: Mozzarella cheese (pasteurized part skim milk, cheese culture, salt, enzymes), Water, Monterey Jack cheese (pasteurized milk, cheese culture, salt, enzymes), Green bell pepper, Potato starch.
Are you seeing this cheesy deliciousness? Try not to drool all over your computer. The pupusas are a bit high in fat, but the fat comes from natural sources, such as cheese. They’re husband approved, too
My second favorite was the Chipotle Chicken Tinga (Shredded Chicken in Chipotle & Tomatoes). I’m not a fan of dark meat, so I picked most of those pieces out, but Jarid happily ate them. With just 130 calories per serving, this dish is an easy meal starter. From the website, “Our traditional family recipe starts with juicy light and dark meat chicken that is shredded to the perfect texture. We then simmer the meat in a rich and zesty tomato and chipotle sauce where it becomes infused with a delicious smoky and spicy flavor.”
It’d be delicious over brown rice, with quinoa, or even as a baked potato topper, as pictured here when I plated Jarid’s dinner!
One of the most loveable things about Del Real Foods products, is the fact that each of them has microwave instructions (heat-and-serve style), making it super simple to prepare dinner, which is nice when I get home from a long day at work and don’t feel like cooking
From what I noticed, Del Real Foods uses only canola oil in these heat-and-serve dishes… A++ guys! Thank you so much to Del Real Foods for sending me all these delicious items to try out! Now, here’s your chance to try Del Real Foods goodies for yourself and win a PARTY IN A BOX!
